Употребление Present Participle Active и Past Participle Passive в функции определения.

Present Participle Active в функции определения употребляется тогда, когда существительное, к которому оно относится, совершает действие или отвечает за него или вызывает определенное состояние.

Present Participle Active в функции определения можно заменить придаточным определеительным предложением с глаголом в форме Continuous.

The crying baby awoke the nurse. = The baby who was crying awoke the nurse.

The child saw a frightening film. = The child saw the film which was frightening him.

Past Participle Passive в функции определения употребляется тогда, когда существительное, к которому оно относится, испытывает действие или состояние.

Past Participle Passive в функции определения можно заменить придаточным определительным предложением с глаголом в форме Passive.

The sorted mail was delivered to the offices before noon. = The mail which had been sorted was delivered to the offices before noon.

The frightened child began to cry. = The child who had been frightened began to cry.

  12. (Freezing/frozen) food is often easier to prepare than fresh food.
  13. The (cleaning/cleaned) shoes were placed in the sun to dry.
  14. We found it difficult to get through the (closing/closed) door without a key.
  15. As we entered the (crowding/crowded) room, I noticed my cousins.
